Cortile (serie)

2022-2024 (tecnica mista)

Courtyard series 2022-2024 (mixed media on canvas)

The Courtyard series 2022-2024 marks a pivotal moment in the artist’s research, which, while rooted in a strong foundation in audiovisuals, has consistently embraced other media to construct a layered and coherent language. Initiated alongside the creation of the eponymous film Courtyard, the project examines the concept of authorship as performance, through a symbolic dialogue between land, artwork, and human relationships. The artist assumes the role of an imaginary landowner, with the “land” serving as a metaphor for their artistic research. The film is envisioned as the fruit of this land, created to be shared with others. As part of the 50 plots project, fragments of this symbolic “land” were distributed to those who contributed to sustaining the research, through the act of gifting. In the summer of 2022, an emblematic gesture was documented: a child was filmed stealthily gathering corn cobs to offer them as a gift. Subsequently, the corn was packed into 50 jute sacks, distributed as symbolic objects of sharing. This series highlights the act of documentation as performative, where the relationship with others becomes the core of the research, weaving memory, exchange, and meaningful gestures. The canvases that make up the series feature a recurring grass pattern, transforming a natural element into a visual signature that aligns with the aesthetics and concepts underpinning the artist’s inquiry.
